The Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) is a regional intergovernmental organization established in 1965 among governments of Southeast Asian countries to promote regional cooperation in education, science, and culture in the region.

As an organization that has continued to nurture human capacities and explored the peoples’ fullest potential, the SEAMEO maintains its work and aspirations for development with peoples of the region to make lives better in quality and equity in education, preventive health education, culture and tradition, information and communication technology, languages, poverty alleviation and agriculture and natural resources.

SEAMEO CHAT

SEAMEO Regional Center for History and Tradition (SEAMEO CHAT) is one of the 24 specialist Regional Centers of Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization, located in Yangon, Myanmar. This organization is under Directorate of Higher Education, Ministry of Education of the Republic of The Union of Myanmar.

SEAMEO CHAT has several programs such as:

Lecture Series

SEAMEO CHAT has conducted Lecture of History and Culture of Southeast Asian Countries, Annual program called Myanmar History From Myanmar Perspective, and also Study on Mon Society and Culture program. These programs have aim to give better understanding about Myanmar history through discussion among people and scholar, wrapped up with lecture and field trip.

Training Programs

SEAMEO CHAT has conducted capacity building programs for academic staffs from university in Yangon and Mandalay region. Moreover, training on Managing Intangible Culture Heritage, partnership with Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology of Japan.

Conference, Seminars, and Workshop

SEAMEO CHAT has held International Conference on Tradition in a Changing World, Workshop on International Networking Project to Share Experiences of Sustainable Development and to Cope with Natural Hazards of the Periphery of Bengal Bay, Women Ancestry and Heritage Project, and other events in collaboration with reputable organizations such as UNESCO, Oxford University, George Mason University, FREDA, Yezin Agricultural Univesity, CSEAS, and so on. For younger generation, SEAMEO CHAT has also conducted Impromptu Talk Competition in The Eyes of Digital Generation.

All these programs are to deepen and advance knowledge of history and tradition of Southeast Asian.

Exhibition

In cooperate with community, SEAMEO CHAT has held some exhibition, such as Myanmar Tradition of  Bamboo and Ceramic Traditions in Myanmar, moreover, SEAMEO CHATt also conducted an exhibition “A Journey through the Myeik Archipelago, in collaboration with CNRS, France.

Other than activities have mentioned, SEAMEO CHAT has also published researches and publications  related to history in tradition of Southeast Asian.

We will continue our work and we are open for anyone who wants to learn and research about history,  tradition, heritage, and culture among Southeast Asian countries.

SEAMEO CHAT has several programs which inviting participant from any countries who are interested to deepen their knowledge and experience at history, tradition, heritage, and culture among Southeast Asian countries. Please find the complete information in the Program and Activities menu.

SEAMEO CHAT also conducts several courses as part of the capacity building program (English course,  lecture, etc). Please find the complete information in the Training and Course menu.

No, SEAMEO CHAT does not focus on english course. We are focusing on programs related to history, tradition, heritage, and culture among Southeast Asian countries.

But we have a core principle related to the capacity building program, and one of it is through the CHAT Communication in English (CCE).
