SEAMEO CHAT successfully hosted its 25th Anniversary Symposium on ‘Southeast Asian Indigenous Culture and Traditions: Interaction, Inclusion and Integration’ at its Centre in Yangon, Myanmar, from 4–5 December 2025, in a hybrid format.

The Symposium highlighted the cultural richness and diversity of Southeast Asia while emphasizing the importance of preserving indigenous traditions and strengthening intercultural dialogue across the region.

The opening ceremony featured a congratulatory video message from H.E. Dr. Chaw Chaw Sein, Union Minister, Ministry of Education, Myanmar followed by congratulatory messages from the former Directors of SEAMEO CHAT, the Director of the SEAMEO Secretariat, and Governing Board Members of SEAMEO CHAT. The Director of SEAMEO CHAT then delivered the welcome remarks and presented gifts of honour to the former Directors in recognition of their contributions.

The two-day Symposium included 12 research paper presentations by professors, researchers, and experts from universities and institutions in Southeast Asia and Japan. A total of 157 participants took part in the event, with 120 attending in person and 37 joining online, demonstrating strong regional and international participation.
