The Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) and the Government of Japan through the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan (MEXT), in cooperation with UNESCO Bangkok, are pleased to announce the 2026 SEAMEO-Japan Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Award under the theme:

“Learning and Well-being for Sustainable Futures: Leveraging the Power of AI”

All public and private kindergarten / elementary / secondary / vocational and technical schools (up to Grade 12) in Southeast Asia are invited to participate.

This year’s Award recognises school initiatives that promote learning and well-being for sustainable futures through meaningful, ethical, and practical use of AI and digital technologies. Schools are encouraged to submit programmes that are student-led, involve collaboration with teachers, parents, and communities, and demonstrate impact or strong potential with early evidence.

The winning schools will receive the following prizes:

  • 1st Prize: USD 1,000 and a study tour to Japan for 4 students and 2 teachers involved in the initiative
  • 2nd Prize: USD 600
  • 3rd Prize: USD 400

All winning schools will also receive a Plaque of Recognition, while shortlisted schools will receive a Certificate of Recognition. Participating schools with entries relevant to the theme will be recognised on the SEAMEO website and will receive one Certificate of Participation after the official announcement of the winners.

What to submit?

  • A completed submission document

  • A 3-minute video clip in English presenting the school’s programme
    If the video is produced in a local language, please include English subtitles.
  • Optional supporting documents may also be attached, following the submission guidelines.
