“History and Tradition of Laos”

SEAMEO CHAT successfully conducted an Online Lecture Series titled, “History and Tradition of Laos”, at its Centre in Yangon, Myanmar, on 28 May 2026.
The Lecture Series highlighted the rich history, culture, and traditions of Laos, aiming to deepen the knowledge of Southeast Asian history and culture among postgraduate students, teachers, researchers, and scholars. This event allows participants to apply these perspectives to their respective fields of study and future research.
We were honored to welcome Ms. Manivanh Sengphachanh—Head of the Lao History Subject Unit and Deputy Director of the Gender Studies Center (Faculty of Social Sciences, National University of Laos)—who presented two comprehensive lectures:
- ‘ History of Laos’
- ‘ Culture and Tradition of Laos’
We were also appreciated Dr. Oudone Vongsommy, Head of Division Faculty of Social Sciences, National University of Laos, Governing Board Member of SEAMEO CHAT, served as the moderator.
A total of 52 online participants attended the event, including researchers and scholars from various universities across Myanmar, making the event a wonderful success for regional academic exchange.
Overall, the event successfully strengthened academic ties and fostered a deeper appreciation for Southeast Asian heritage. SEAMEO CHAT looks forward to hosting more cultural and historical exchanges that continue to inspire and connect scholars across the region.
